The writings on the Art of Mark Rothko describe the different
condition of a painter-prophet who in total abstraction signs the
different strata of human drama.
His uprooting, his insolence, his solitude are testomy of an enigmatic
universe in which he evolves, execute all in a colourful witty
eloquence of expressionist.
He started painting by accident, but, convinced that his destiny was a
natural melancholic, it took more than 25 years for Mark Rothko to
find his route.
It was Mondarin and Matisse who bedazzled and brought him towards
Abstract Art in 1948. Regardless of the huge success, desperate he took
his life on the 25th February 1970.
The writer John Hurt analyzes this act as the last anger of a
“man who was intended to paint temples but instead realise that
his work was treated as merchandise”. His writing in 1934-1969
tried to give an explanation to this drama. Today the works of Rothko
are well priced on the international art market.
